We have had a recent influx of questions about a November preorder Mech and questions surrounding what Mech would be shipping in January. We thought it would be a good idea to share...
The Skye Rangers Brigade has a long tradition of service and loyalty to House Steiner through four long and grueling Succession Wars spanning hundreds of years. Once again civil war threatens the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere. Our Mechwarriors have been called home, allies will be chosen, enemies vanquished, and battles fought on distant worlds under far off suns...the Federation of Skye will now decide its destiny...
Welcome to the Home Base of the Skye Rangers, located on the dark and beautiful planet Summer, within the Federation of Skye.
I have the pleasure of presenting you a long overdue and needed update on the Regiment. I will try to keep it short and give out the needed promotions to all active members of the Regiment.

On the planet Qanatir, Periphery March, Steiner Territory June 29th, 3053 Time: 15:30
It was a frozen wasteland, the only sign of any former civilization was the abandoned city with its building encased in tombs of ice and snow. And yet the Lyrans had constructed a lone base for mining and geological study full with a staff of civilians, mainly scientists and miners, and with military personnel that rotated every six months. During this rotation period, the civilians would typically be mostly left unguarded, with little more than the bare minimum to monitor security of the sector. Unfortunately, this left little towards the defense of the base should it become under attack. Most had felt the need for much security and defense on such a backwater planet near the periphery was unwarranted. Surely, no one ever desired to bother with such a desolate place. That was until the first raid came from a small group of pirates from the periphery, stealing much of the ores that had been excavated. The Grey Death Legion had been contracted to lend support towards the defense of the base until the replacement guard had arrived. One attack was enough, but the civilians left nothing else to chance. Five battlemechs from the GDL with a lance worth of local security personnel in their own 'mechs seemed enough. .“<The scouts report a possible pirate installation on the other side of the abandoned city>”, COL Sevronis stated over the comm in his BL-P-KNT. “<Depending on how big this base is, we don't know what kind of number these pirates may bring, so keep yours eyes peeled.>” “<Speak of the devil>”, crackled Aerei's voice through the speaker. “<I see about a lance of unidentified 'mechs across the valley.>” “<Alright, let's push on across and close distance>”, Sevronis ordered, taking the lead across the valley. “<Shuben, stay with me. Bakka, keep to the rear and provide cover fire. Aerei and Theman flank outwards and catch them at the sides when we start the fight. The local security 'mechs can stay behind if any bandits try to rush the base.>” “<Roger>”, came the reply from Bakka and Theman. “<Oh man, I got a bad feeling about this>”, answered Shuben, keeping pace with Sevronis in his own BL-P-KNT. “<The first kill is mine!>”, exclaimed Aerei rather excitedly from an ENF-4R. “<Contact made, let's say hello Shuben!>”, Sevronis shouted as the two Black Knights came around the corner, getting the attention of the nearest enemy 'mech with a managed continuous barrage of firepower. Aerei and Theman came in from the sides, doing hit and run maneuvers against the target engaged with Sevronis. A final barrage of laser fire from Aerei's Enforcer secured the first enemy destruction. “<Called it!>”, shouted Aerei, just as a few more red blips appeared on the sensors. “<Uh, we got a problem. There's another enemy lance headed our way.>” “<This is base security!>”, came another voice over the comms in Sevronis' cockpit. “<We have a lance of 'mechs pushing in on the base! We'll try to hold them off as best we can!>” “<Damn it! They got us surrounded!>”, Sevronis responded in surprise, finishing off the second enemy 'mech nearby. “<Let's finish these guys quickly!>”
The battle continued on, eventually leading to Bakka's BJ-3 being put out of commission, followed by Shuben's Black Knight next, with the ENF-4R not far behind, much to Aerei's frustration . The security lance managed to down five of the enemy 'mechs when a couple enemy reinforcements arrived from the battle across the valley. Sevronis' Black Knight was just about at its limit, having only a couple weapons left, but still trying to do whatever possible. There were seven enemy 'mechs left, so the possible looked pretty dim. “Theman, you're the only one left and I won't last much longer”, Sevronis voice uttered from the comm in Theman's UM-R60L. “<Most of these guys are really banged up as well. Get in the base and get help from the turrets!>”
An Urbanmech wasn't the most spectacular Light 'mech around, but Theman's UM-R60L wasn't the slow-walking turret you would expect. A rather odd loadout of an Autocannon 2 and a quartet of medium lasers with the largest XL engine the chassis could carry, was what the young pilot had to win this with. “<I got this>”, Theman replied with an air of confidence. He took potshots with his AC2 as he jumped over the nearest base wall. The enemy forces were all desperately trying to shoot at the small battlemech, chasing after him into the base. Upon entry, the turrets that were still standing removed two opponents with ease before being destroyed themselves. Three enemy 'mechs remained. It was to Theman's fortune that all three were not able to run as fast. The continuous plinking of the AC2 upon metal seemed as a BB rifle hitting the side of a barn, but Theman kept the trigger pulled. To manage his heat, the four medium laser were set to chain fire. Soon the first enemy was down, sights set to the second, and plinking away. At this point the AC2 ammo reserves ran out, leaving only the lasers. Again and again they cut into the armor of the second opponent until, it too, fell over in defeat. The final 'mech seemed to visibly shake, unable to fathom this untold ferocity of such a feeble 'mech. Like a carnivore toying with its prey, Theman burned into one of the legs to disable it, preventing the 'mech from escaping. Next, what was left of the arms, then side torsos before finally being cored out. With no other attackers, all that was left was to disable the enemy base and secure the area. He ran, as fast as his Urbanmech legs could move, he ran. As soon as he entered the enemy base, he set upon the destruction of important structures. It wasn't long however, that the base fully surrendered and turrets went offline.
“<Theman, I'm not sure how you pulled that off, but you did. And in an Urbanmech of all things>”, Sevronis' voice came back over the comm. Theman merely pulled out a pair of sunglasses, sliding them over his eyes and replied with a simple “<Deal with it.>”
Sevronis and the others had been retrieved and safely back inside Phobos near the base. The COL held the communicator and was only speechless before quietly setting it back down and looked at the report in his hand regarding the performances of other GDL pilots, most notably Naseldrip by also pulling a win out of his ass during another assignment. He would have to read that glowing recommendation later, he needed a drink now. ___________________________________________________________________________________
TL;DR version (Sorry! Got carried away again!)
Theman265 - to SSGM Obberon - to SCP Shuben - to SCP
Theman265 - HoS (winning a match against 3 to 1 odds) Naseldrip - MoH (winning a match against 5 to 1 odds) Kurbeks - HoS (5000+ kills); and RLOC (25+ favors)
Again I wish to extend a congrats to Theman for being MW of the Month for July! This was the story that lead to it (some exaggeration may have been embelished). Congrats to everyone! Strength through unity!
MWOWC EU-Team: today seems to be the last opportunity to grab em prices for participation in the MWOWC. So in case you CAN attend tonight, it would be appreciated highly! I want at least one EON-component as a hanging cockpit item!
You kids with your newfangled toys! Back in my day, we had to push the AC grenades into the enemy armor by mech-hand! Our cockpits never went below 40° Celsius and our lasers went PEEEWW instead of pewpewpewpewpew!
Also important thing for those who didn't know. After this patch you can now take any mech from mechbay into training grounds with unsaved loadout. Bascially allowing you to try out different builds/skills without spending cbills/xp.
Hey William! Nice to have ye back! Can you invite Gri3f3r and CrashSteel into the academy please so they have a bigger bunch of ppl to play with? Pretty nice folks from what I have seen until now. Thx!
Tonight (EU-Time): Team Bravo does MWOWC18 drops to get the games needed for prices! Show up + participate, so we can spread PGI's blessings between as many Rangers as possible. Check the thread in TacCom-Subforum, contact via PM or show up on TS!
