The Centurion was designed and built by Corean Enterprises as an
operational partner for the highly successful Trebuchet. Produced from
1801 until the Corean plant on Ramen II was destroyed in 2845, it boasts
a pwerful Luxor Medium-heavy autocannon and two Photech 806c medium
lasers, one of which fires to the rear. For long-range hitting power,
it has a chassis-mounted Luxor 3R LRM-10. This cross-section of
weaponry gives the Centiruion a potential damage curve that increases
steadily as it nears its target
Unfortnuately, many CN9-A's have developed defects in their Autocannon
loading mechanisms. In many cases, it has been necessary to replace the
entire loader. As replacment parts for the Luxor autocannon become
increasingly rare, Techs often replace the entire autocannon with
another make or decide to mount a different type of weapons system in
its stead. No matter which alternative is chosen it is an extremely
complicated and time-consuming operation, as the Luxor system was
custom-fit into the Centurion's chassis with no room left for
Although the CN9 is a fine Mech when in good condition, the defective
autocannons make its future uncertain. In the future, Centiurions may
adopt a variety of roles, depending on which refits they receive
The top speed of the Centurion is 64.8 km/h. While this is slower than
the Trebuchet that it guards by 22 km/h, it is capable of keeping up
with most fire support 'Mechs and the Centurion has made a reputation
for itself as a front line combat 'Mech.
The Centurion carries as its primary weapon a Luxor D-Series
Autocannon/10 which gives the 'Mech a powerful direct fire capability.
Also supporting the Centurions long range fire capability is a Luxor 3R
LRM-10. The Luxor LRM allows the Centurion to both assist in a fire
support and to be used against 'Mechs closing with the Centurion. As its
last secondary weapons, the Centurion carries two Photech 806c Medium
Lasers, one of them rear-mounted. These lasers allow the 'Mech a good
close range striking power against enemies who make it through the
combined barrage of Autocannon and LRM fire
The Centurion is best known for making slow, steady advances. Because
of its autocannon and medium lasers, the CN9 prefers to attack at close
range, where it can do the most damage. With 8.5 tons of armor, the
Centurion is tough enough to absorb a considerable amount of damage.
Moreover, tis heat sinks allow it to keep up a vigourus assault without
danger of overheating.
The 120 autocannon reloads and 24 LRM reloads makie it possible for the
CN9-A to operate away from a supply base for short periods. Because of
this and its ability to move quickly and fire without overheating, the
Centruion is often used as part of a raiding lance.
The CN9 cal also lay covering fire at long ranges. However , it is
rarely used in this capability during major engagments because the
launch rate of its LRM-10 is too slow to be effective against mulitiple
opponents. In smalle encounters, the LRM's are very effective, and
the 24 reloads allow the centiurion to keep up the pressure.
The formidable apperance of the Centurion's Luxor autocannon tends to
eleveate the pilot's confidence and give him the feeling that he can
blast his way through anything. This fighting spirit can often be a
valuable psychological advantage to a lance or a company facing stiff
opppostion. During the Battle for Hoff, it was Mechwarrior Fadre
Sing, not the company commander, who is credited with leading the
deciseve assault on the Eridani Forces at Azure Stone Mesa. According
to offical reports, the young pilot became restless while his
commanding officer debated the rationality of a frontal assault. Sing
announced the he was "going over there to pound a few Eridani Mechs into
spare parts" with or without help from the rest of the Lance. He set
off across the mesa and afer a moment's hesitation, the rest of the
company followed, leaving the ocmmander with mouth gaping. Under
Sing's command, the company smashed throug the enemy line and destroyed a
vital supply depot. The spectacular succes of the raid made it
politicaly dangerous to court-martial Sing. Instead, he and his
Centurion were assigned to 'an important post' in a frontier world.
In the Battle for New Mendham, Lietenant Ian Grimm distingused himself
and his Centurion by attacking and destroying a Marauder
single-handedly. The MAD had been punching its way through an office
tower when the building caught fire. The pilot panicked and started
firing his PPCs wildly to blast his way out. By the time the Marauder
cleared the fire, it was badly overheated and close to shut-down.
Grimm saw it coming out and moved in to attack at close-range.
Grimm's Centurion was to close to be easily hit with a PPC, and the
Marauder was to hot to make wild shots, so the Mad began kicking and
punching, trying to pound its attacker into scrap. The CN9 managed to
move out to about 60 meters and started hammering away at the MAD with
its autocannon and medium laser. The only weapons the Marauder could
effectively fire were its two medium lasers, but with its targeting
system malfunctioning due to high temperatures, even those were little
use. In the end, the Centurion managed to blast through the left-torso
armor and hit the autocannon's magaizine. The explosion gutted the
Overall the Centurion is an effective harasser. It has a mix of
weapons for all range groups. This can be both a boon and a curse.
The mech does no one mission effectively well but in turn it can do a
bit of everything. If well piloted this mech can be an exceptional
pain to deal with at close ranges for assault class mech's it moves
fast enough to keep in the rear arc of most bigger mechs. Due to ammo
load out and consumption rate . If run in an ammo heavy configureation
the pilot needs to be sure of his shots before taking them or he will
quickly be out of ammo. Pilots who prefer this mech and are not good
with ballistics would be well suited to using modification based on the
Energey version of this chassis.
The CN9-A carries a loadout of weapons that does increasing damage as it
closes. The LRM 10 gives it long range reach and the AC/10 & Medium
Lasers give it a good punch at medium and close range. Its good balance
of armor, firepower, and speed make an excellent general purpose Medium
The CN9-A spreads its hardpoints across several locations, mean it is
less likely be rendered harmless by one section being destroyed.
Compared to other Centurion models, it has the greatest number of
hardpoint locations, which includes 3 Missile Hardpoints.
The two energy hardpoints of the center torso must share only two
available critical spaces, which limits the types and number of energy
weapons that can be installed on the CN9-A.
The even distribution of hardpoint types and locations will require a
diverse loadout. While not in itself a weakness, it precludes the
possibility to specialize in one or two weapon types.
The missile bay doors of the left torso can be manually opened or closed
(button / by default). When opened, missile weapons fire as soon as you
trigger them. When closed, the component receives at 10% resistance to
The left arm houses no weapon hardpoints. Armor can either be removed
from this location to save tonnage for other uses or the arm can be used
as a shield from incoming damage.
The CN9-AL decreases the CN9-A's dependance on ammunition by removing
the unreliable AC/10. In its place is a Large Laser, which shares the
same range as the AC/10, and a Small Laser. The weight saved goes toward
increasing the number of heat sinks and amount of protection.
Not very ammo reliant
Energy hardpoints on arms for extra mobility
Good for long range by adding some ppc in its arms
Tends to run hot
The CN9-D is the newest model of the popular Centurion. It makes use of a
massive but lightweight 300 XL Engine to move the 'Mech at speeds near
100kph. The 'Mech can use this speed to close on enemies and unload the
Medium Lasers and LB 10-X autocannon or stay at range and make use of
the increased accuracy of the Artemis IV FCS equipped LRM 10 launcher.

This custom variant of the Centurion is named Yen-Lo-Wang for the
Chinese god of death. The CN9-YLW was made famous by the victories of
Justin Xiang Allard in the Solaris VII arenas. It mounts a massive
Autocannon 20 in its right arm and a pair of Medium Lasers. It is
unclear if the Hatchet normally found on the design will eventually be
available in MechWarrior Online.
Three Module Slots
Purchased with MC only.
Lopsided Armament - Loss of the Right Arm removes most of this mech's firepower. The left arm has no weapons.
Limited traversal of energy weapons - Lasers are torso mounted, limiting
vertical traversal. Fighting on cliffs is not recommended.
This 'Mech is only available for purchase with MC, costing 3,750 MC. It
comes with a unique skin and provides a 30% C-Bill bonus.
The massive AC20 cannot normally fit onto most 'Mechs arms. Special
extra critical slots are provided to allow for it by removing the lower
arm actuator. As a result, the arms cannot turn for extra sideways
reach. Although the arm has two Ballistic slots, the AC20 occupies the
entirety of the critical slots in the arm.
