1x Small Laser
Technicron Manufacturing began production of the Awesome in 2665 to
replace the STR-2C Striker. What they produced not only replaced the
aging Striker, it became one of the more feared BattleMechs of all time.
The Awesome is built around its impressive all energy based arsenal and
heavy armor making it a highly independent and powerful assault 'Mech.
Rugged and reliable, the Awesome is traditionally used in a vanguard
role when penetrating enemy defenses. The Awesome's massive firepower
also lends it to defensive actions, acting as a mobile turret when
necessary. Because of its reliance on PPCs, the Awesome is able to act
independently for extended periods of time. This trait is also useful in
siege situations where the 'Mech can keep up a constant barrage,
allowing it to win battles of attrition through bleeding an enemy dry.[
The Awesome has a limited, but effective, armament consisting of three
Kreuss PPCs giving it an immense amount of damage potential at ranges
exceeding five hundred meters. The 'Mech also mounts a Diverse Optics
Type 10 Small Laser for close range defense.
AWS-8R - The 8R variant of the Awesome was introduced in 2683, and is
also focused on long range damage but dispenses with the traditional
energy-based loadout, armed with two LRM-15 launchers and a Large Laser,
but also retains the Small Laser. While providing long range damage
potential equal to that of the 8Q, the heavy dependence on ammunition
limits the amount of time a barrage can be maintained.
Four Missile Hardpoints
Only one Module Slot
AWS-8T - Introduced in 2815 and taking the concept of the 8R further,
the 8T removed five heat sinks and replaces them with an additional
Large Laser while retaining the two LRM-15s of the 8R. This modification
makes good use of the Awesome's heavily heat sinked design, as the
removal of the five heat sinks has little effect on the 'Mech and
actually makes the 'Mech more effective when the LRM ammunition has been
More balanced load out. Less dependent on its LRM's for damage
Only 2 tons of ammo total for the two launchers. Insufficent ammo for an extended fight.
AWS-8V - An attempt to meld the concepts behind the 8R with the 8Q, the
8V was introduced in 2980. It is armed with a single PPC, an LRM-15
launcher, a Large Laser and a Small Laser for defense. This mix of
weapons allows the Awesome to keep up a constant barrage after it has
depleted its LRM ammunition.
Good long and medium range firepower
Usually runs cool
AWS-9M - The 9M is an upgrade of the Awesome that uses Star League
technologies, and was introduced in 3049. The 'Mech is built around a
320 Hermes XL Fusion engine, giving the 'Mech a top speed of 64.8 km/h.
The heat sinks were upgraded to double heat sinks to allow this variant
to be rearmed with three Fusigon Longtooth ER PPCs. The ER PPCs are
backed up by two Hovertec Streak SRM-2s, a Magna 400P Medium Pulse
Laser, and a Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Pulse Laser. Double Heat
Sinks reduce waste heat almost twice as fast as Standard Heat Sinks for
the same overall weight. Additionally, the maximum speed is increased
by 10 kph.
able to have Good Long and Short range firepower
Fast for an Assault mech
Can mount upto an XL Engine - 385, The largest of any (Non-Hero) assault mech.
It is Expensive to buy
not all CT Hardpoints can be used at once
The AWS-PB is the Hero 'Mech model of the Awesome. With its flashy paint
job and incredible speed, the Pretty Baby is the hot rod of the assault
class. Even the -AWS-9M isn't as fast. It features relatively few
hardpoints compared to other models though.
The AWS-PB is armed with a LRM 15 for Long Ranged combat, a PPC and
Large Laser for Medium Range warfare, as well as a Medium Laser - SRM 4
Combo for short ranged engagements. Nineteen Double Heat Sinks dissipate
26.6 heat per second, keeping the design cool.
The Pretty Baby can mount the largest Engine engine rating of 400 and
features a top speed of 81kph, nearly 90 kph with the Speed Tweek
Module, giving it a top speed that rivals that of Medium 'Mechs like the
Hunchback. Additionally, its turning rate is is 10% better than the
other Awesome models. Like all Hero 'Mechs, the Pretty Baby has the 30%
In contrast to other Awesomes, the AWS-PB has the fewest number of
weapon Hardpoints. Additionally, it decelerates slower than other
Pretty Baby Background
MechWarrior Danielle Peterson
A member of Delmar's assault lance, Tagaki's Battalion of House Davion's
Chisholm's Raiders, Danielle does not look the part of a MechWarrior.
Blond and beautiful, she has what many of her comrades call "the knack".
Though joking and friendly outside of her 'Mech, when Danielle buttons
up in her Awesome, she seems to become one with the machine, able to
react as if it were her own skin. This has saved her on more than one
occasion when surrounded by enemy 'Mechs. In one instance, she literally
skipped aside with her Awesome, the Pretty Baby, to avoid an incoming
missile strike aimed at her. Danielle is famous throughout the Successor
States for her skill in piloting the usually un-maneuverable Awesome.
Leftenant Danielle Peterson:
As a member of the Chisholm’s Raiders, Peterson has a petite build and
physical beauty that is atypical of MechWarriors and seemingly at odds
with her Awesome’s appearance. She is highly regarded for her
exceptional piloting ability, and the extraordinary agility and
performance she displays in her BattleMech have been well documented.
Seemingly uninhibited by the Awesome’s typical lack of maneuverability,
Peterson’s incredible skills have made her and her Awesome ("Pretty
Baby”) famous in all the Successor States. Several Solaris VII stables
have offered her tremendous financial rewards were she to retire and
join them, but so far she has publicly maintained that her allegiance to
the Federated Suns, and she claims she does not intend to retire until
they are done with her.
