Code of Conduct

Last Updated on 09.24.03

The Code of Conduct detailed below is being enforced so as to maintain some semblance of order and maintain the Skye Rangers' reputation in the chaotic, profane and often abusive online world. Act with military style professionalism, honor, courtesy and honesty and you will have no problems.  Become abusive, profane or insulting with the Skye Rangers Mechwarrior and/or Officers (or other online "chatters") and risk losing rights to these "online privileges" (i.e. being "banned" from Skye Rangers activities, meetings, practices, etc.).

However, despite all of these regulations, online offenses will occur.  Please be reminded that although we will make every attempt to assist folks online, the Skye Rangers can NOT be held responsible for online chat comments, harassment, etc. All we can do is enforce our own Bylaws with respect to membership in the club (i.e. typically the worst we can do is kick someone out).  Skye Rangers Members and visitors should remember that the online world is not always a friendly place and appropriate precautions should always be taken (i.e. don't give out home address, real name, telephone numbers, passwords, credit information, use of parental controls, etc.).

Remember, the Bylaws and Privacy Policy are in FULL effect in all online operations...

These Codes of Conduct (CoC’s) are meant as guidelines and rules for behavior for ALL Mechwarriors of the Skye Rangers while online, representing the Skye Rangers, or on any other interactive medium. These rules are to be enforced WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Holding a certain rank/position will not protect one from the enforcement of these rules. These rules have been created with the best interests of the Membership in mind. Our intention is to provide a fun and enjoyable environment for all who wish to participate.

Do Respect others and their feelings

When talking to others online, be wary of topics of conflict or those that cause harm or are insulting. If this is the case, then that topic of conversation is to be ceased immediately. Offensive topics can be anything from music to religion to politics, so keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable with any discussion.

Do NOT insult others on a level external to Mechwarrior

Insulting anyone on a topic that is not "in character Mechwarrior role-play" is strictly forbidden. This includes insulting someone based on their race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc.

    Penalty: First Offense - Warning
Penalty: Second Offense - Kick/remove access to offending board or chat
Further Offenses - Ban of 1 to 4 weeks

Do NOT swear

Swearing of all kinds is forbidden in all Skye Rangers activities. Whether it be swearing in another language (English being the default language), concealed swearing or suggested swearing, pornography or profanity.

Penalty: First Offense - Warning, asking the offender to cease the use of such language.
Penalty: Second Offense - Kick/remove access to offending board or chat
Further or excessive use of improper language may result in expulsion or further disciplinary action.

Do NOT Hack, Trade in warez or sex channels/files (back to top)

This is an offense that crosses the morality barrier as well as in some locales, international law. As the Skye Rangers is a respectable family club, we do not want our image tarnished by certain elements of internet society. Hacking, trading of warez or transmission of sex-related files, pictures, etc. while engaged in Skye Rangers activities is prohibited. Note this also includes MP3 (music) files pirated off the web or said Warez Channels.

Penalty: First Offense - Ban from Skye Rangers activities for a minimum of 1 month
    Further Offense - Expulsion

Do NOT annoy people

As different people have different annoyance levels, it is up to the discretion of any present Officers as to what action is to be taken and when. Someone can be considered annoying when another person or persons are disgusted with the person's behavior, actions or conversation. Repetition of statements, constant complaining, or rants are considered annoying behavior. Excessive speaking in foreign languages when on an English-based server falls under this category as well, but holds different penalties.

    Penalty: First Offense - Warning
Penalty: Second Offense - Kick/remove access to offending board or chat
Further Offenses - Ban of 3 to 7 days

DO help other Mechwarriors whenever possible

Being a respected, professional bunch of Mechwarriors, all Members are encouraged to help other Mechwarriors in other clubs whenever possible provided such assistance does not bring harm to the Skye Rangers.

Note: While there is no stated penalty for the breaking of this CoC, it is expected that all Mechwarriors will be helpful and polite towards others at ALL times. If someone is found to be grossly ignoring this responsibility however, they could possibly be facing dereliction of duty charges.

Do NOT impersonate an Officer

Impersonating an Officer can be as simple as changing your nick on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or an ID Line to represent oneself as possessing a Rank or Position not held or pretending to be someone your are not.

    Penalty: First Offense - Warning
Further Offenses - Ban (possible expulsion in malicious cases)
Note: The Skye Front Commander should be notified if someone is caught breaking this rule.

Do NOT openly disobey a superior/commanding Officer

If a superior officer gives an order that you do not agree with, they are not to contradicted or argued with in public. If you have a disagreement with the order or action, speak to them in private. If a superior officer gives an order to a junior Officer, it must be followed. The Skye Rangers Command structure is still in effect and must be followed during all league drops and weekly practices.

Penalty: First and any Offense - This is known as insubordination and is dealt with severely.

The violation of this CoC is to be directly taken up with the Skye Front Commander for proper disciplinary action.

DO be representative of all the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces (LAAF)

A member of the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces (LAAF) is a well-respected person, with high standards, is honorable and extremely loyal. These qualities are to be extended whenever representing the Skye Rangers. In addition, any members of clubs with whom we are at war, and their allies are not allowed in any Skye Rangers activity.
